A semi-regular feature showing how former Cub players are doing.
I recently changed my methodology to try to include more players who never made it to the majors with the Cubs, so that players like Brett Bateman would be included.
Ex-Cubs Position players:
Some additions to this list include:
-Gleyber Torres – famously traded for Aroldis Chapman
-Ali Sanchez – was a Cubs minor-leaguer for about 2 months in 2024 before being sold to the Marlins
-Andruw Monasterio – Began his career with the Cubs at 17, and was traded for Daniel Murphy in 2018. Recently, he was part of the trade that brought Caleb Durbin to the Sox, sending back Shane Drohan, David Hamilton and Kyle Harrison to the Brewers (who have all done very well).
-Ronny Simon – was an international free agent who signed with the Cubs in 2018 and was traded for Andrew Chafin in 2020
-Christian Franklin – part of the Soroka Trade
-PJ Higgins – back in the majors after a 4-year absence in the minors and the Puerto Rican Winter League.
-Dylan Carlosn and Scott Kingery – included, but their only playing time in the majors this season has been with the Cubs
-Recently traded Moises Ballesteros and Brett Bateman

-Dylan Cease – would be nice to have signed him as a free-agent this year
-Paul Blackburn – a Cubs first-round draft pick in 2012, he was part of the trade for Mike Montgomery in 2016
-Yovanny Cruz – pitched in the Cubs organization fro 2017-2023, never getting past high A. He’s bounced around from the Padres to the Red Sox, before pitching in the majors for both the Yankees and Nationals this season. He was part of the trade for Luis Garcia Jr.
-Cam Sanders – A Cubs’ farmhand from 2018 through 2024
