Where are they now: Cubs prospects sent away at the deadline in 2025

As we get closer to the trade deadline, it would be interesting to see how some of the prospects the Cubs traded last year are doing:

• Wilfri De La Cruz – 3B/SS – 18 years old – traded for Andrew Kittridge – In Complex League with Baltimore, slashing .221/.390/.317.
• Ronny Cruz – SS – 19 years old – traded for Michael Soroka – In A and A+ with Washington, slashing .237/.319/.386. He’s the #4 Nationals prospect according to Fangraphs.
• Christian Franklin – OF – 26 years old – traded for Michael Soroka – In AAA with Washington, slashing .242/.368/.350. The #29 Nationals Prospect, but at 26, his window for being an impact major league is shrinking.
• Ivan Brethowr – OF- 23 years old – traded for Taylor Rogers – In A, A+ and AA for Pittsburgh, slashing .205/.351/.367. For someone who was supposed to have big power, his slugging percentage has to be a concern.
• Sam Armstrong – P – 25 years old – traded for Willi Castro – In AA for Minnesota has a 4.92 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with a 19.6 K% and 9.7 BB%.
• Ryan Gallagher – P – 23 years old – traded for WIlli Castro – In AAA for Minnesota has a 6.08 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 22.5 K% and 11.1 BB%.

While the Cubs did not get much of a return from anyone they acquired except for Kittredge, they did not ultimately give up very much. Of course, they’ve given up much more in the off-season with the Kyle Tucker and Edward Cabrera trades.

The big question is whether the front office will be more aggressive in this trade dealine, and whether more MLB-ready players like Shaw, Ramirez, Ballesteros or Alcantara will be available. Or if they’d be willing to part with one of their highest rated prospects.
