Zach McKinstry is back on top of the ex-Cub WAR, with the usual suspects of Parades, Schwarber, Bellinger and Baez just below. We got to see too much of Parades and Cam Smith over the weekend, and barring a world series matchup, will not see them again this season.
Alexander Canario has gotten at bats with the Pirates, but has not done much with them. It will be interesting to see if the Pirates give him even more playing time as they fall farther and farther out of the race.
Jeimer Candelario was DFA’d and then released by the Reds, as he’s having a horrible season. No team was willing to even trade for him, so the next question will be whether some one will give him a major league deal or whether he’ll have to sign a minor league contract. I find him a bit intriguing for the Cubs to improve their bench, but he’s actually done worse than the players the Cubs already have, if that’s even possible. more likely, the Cubs will work the trade market to find some help for the bench.
Also getting DFA’d was Jason Heyward.

The possibility of a reunion with Chapman seems less likely, as the Red Sox are only 3 back in the wild card. But the next few weeks will be critical to determine if they are buyers, sellers or neither.
One interesting name that popped up on the list is Scott Effross, who is finally back for the Yankees, pitching 1 inning on June 17th before being sent back to the minors.
Michael Fulmer is back on this list, as he rejected an assignment back to Iowa, and will seek his fortune with another team. It was nice to see him back, albeit briefly.
Wade Miley was in the news for some not so good reasons…
Hunter Bigge, who was part of the trade for Isaac Parades last season, was hit in the face by a vicious foul line drive, while on the bench, suffering several facial fractures. But he is expected to return this season.
