After an easy Cubs win on Tuesday, Tuesday night was a great time to be a Cubs fan. Shota pitching the next day for a 3-game sweep…the offense humming on all cylinders…and the rest of the NL Central mired in mediocrity.
The Wednesday morning had to roll around with the inevitable gut punch of news of a Justin Steele injury. They are calling it elbow tendinitis, but they will learn more after an MRI today.
Then Shota has his worst start of the year so far, giving up 5 runs over 6. And the Cubs offense was stymied by Tyler Mahle, in a 6-2 loss.
On tap is a 6-game road trip against the Dodgers and Padres. The Dodgers showed that they are beatable in their last series against Washington, but there’s something ominous about those late night games on the West Coast.
Fortunately, the Brewers (who, despite their pitching injuries are in 2nd place) have to visit Arizona for 3, before heading home to face the Tigers.
It just goes to show that despite the longs season, one day can make a big difference.
